Target Audience Description
Although any type of music can be enjoyed by any person, the indie pop and alternative genres are specifically aimed at a certain target audience. This audience can be identified in a number of ways, including the demographic and psychographic scales.
The social demographic scale is used to identify an audience based on class and occupation in alphabetical categories; with Grade A including those with a professional occupation, through to Grade E, such as pensioners and the unemployed.
Although this can be a useful indicator it can at times be inaccurate; as students and retirees are both categorised as Grade E, yet usually have very different interests.
For my music video I would categorise my target audience as Grade E, being students and younger, unemployed people. This is because music of my genre is aimed at teenagers, especially girls, who may feel anxious or depressed.

Psychographics uses personality as a distinctive factor and categorises people based on their interests, hobbies and lifestyle. Whilst this creates variety within individual groups, it can also be ineffective if people fit multiple categories on the psychographics scale.
I would class my target audience in the Aspirer category. My reason for this is that females in their teenage years can often be stereotyped as materialistic and obsessed with the appearance more than the contents. However, I could also loosely categories the Struggler's as part of my target audience, as the lyrics of the song suggest that the artist is struggling and battling with depression.
