Idea Generation

Synopsis

The music video follows a girl on a beach contemplating whether or not to take her own life after a breakup. After thinking about her decision, she submerges herself in the sea before rising back out of the water and performing to the camera, showing to the audience the fact that she did not go through with her suicide attempt.

Narrative

Cinematography

The plot for my music video will revolve around the subject contemplating suicide. The video will open with her kneeling by the sea looking out over to the horizon.

*Opening shot of photograph in the sea, camera tilts up and zooms onto the subject before the track begins*

(Track begins as the subject opens her eyes)
- She will look at a picture of herself with an ex-partner before getting up and walking up the beach.

- This will lead to a lip-syncing performance of the chorus with subtle movements.

- Second verse opens with the subject sat further up the beach looking in different directions to symbolise uncertainty on her future.

- Allows sand to fall between her fingers to symbolise her world falling apart.

*Lip-syncing pre-hook*

-Focused just on lips relaying the vocals

-Possibly add a dark vignette to the border.

(Will record entire song in this way to have a variety of footage)

*Leads into second chorus with more dramatic emotion driven movements on the beach*

-Shot of the subject ripping up the photograph seen earlier.

-Pulling hair

-Falling to her knees in despair

-Arm movement

-Visibly distressed

-Looking to the sky

-Clenching fists and shaking head

*As the bridge of the song approaches, the subject moves towards the sea before submerging herself in the water*

-Could be either falling backwards or walking out to see until she is no longer visible

*For the final chorus, she will be performing once again dramatically only this time it will be in the sea and on the shoreline*

-Emphasis on wet hair and clothing to show abnormality of the situation.

*Final shot of the ripped photograph washed up on the shore*
-Tracking Shots (Large parts of the video focus on a ‘journey’ so movement with the subject is very important.)

-Close-Ups (I am going to try and cover the identity of the subject for apart of the music video to add enigma, so close up shots give me the means to do this.)

-Slow Motion (To create an atmospheric effect, I want to edit some of the scenes of the subject in the sea so they play in slow motion.)

-Pull Focus (In order to create a sense of disorientation, and this technique can be used to reveal the subject.)

Cutaways

I will need 'filler' shots in order to not show the artist on screen at all times. These can also be used to establish the setting of my music video.

- Sunset / Waves Crashing onto the Beach (time-lapse)

- Establishing Shots

- Beetles crawling up the beach (macro shot)

- Leaves Moving in the Breeze

- Flashbacks (Undecided)
