Filming Techniques

Below are a range of filming techniques I used during the production of my music video. These are things I have not experimented with before, including in my AS year. This shows the development in my set of skills over the past year.

Time-lapse

I created this time-lapse by recording the sunset using a tripod. I needed to research the time of the sunset each day and began recording 30 minutes before. It took 3 attempts, but this one was the most successful in terms of composition and lighting.

Handheld Camera

To create this effect, I held the camera to my chest and followed the artist as she rotated in a circular motion. The outcome was a shot that is clearly unique to my video, as almost all other shots are stable.

Tracking Shots

When filming my music video, I used a large variety of tracking shots within my work. This includes close ups, and reverse tracking shots where the artist is walking towards me as I back away.

Silhouettes

When the sun was rising above the sea, I used this as an opportunity to create a silhouette of the artist as she walks along the beach. This adds a lot of mystery to her, whilst simultaneously creating very impressive and rich visuals.
